Ohmme (pronounced "ohm") is the selfâtitled debut by Chicagoans Sima Cunningham and Macie Stewart. The two have become integral parts of the Chicago music scene, having performed with a diverse range of musicians and musical styles. Between them, Cummingham and Stewart have helped found the bands Kids These Days and Marrow as well as toured with artists Tweedy and Chance the Rapper and recorded with Richard Thompson.Originally released digitally in 2016 as a 6âsong EP under the band's original name Homme (before discovering a South Korean pop duo with the same name), this vinyl release includes two additional unreleased tracks. While diversity plays a large role, Ohmme's musical sensibility falls inline with acts like St. Vincent, TuneâYards, or even Tortoise for its ambitious approach to sonic experimentation. The band have garnered early praise from multiple sources, earning them a spot at the coveted Pitchfork Music Festival in 2016. The Chicago Tribune noted the EP "spanned a huge dynamic range, from vaporous to violent."With plans to spend most of 2017 on tour, the band have already performed as support for The Joy Formidable, Tortoise, and Half Waif. Fullâlength album to be released in 2018.
