Produced and recorded by Egedy and mixed/co-produced by Jupiter Keyes of HEALTH, Thee Physical is a celebration of human touch in a digital world. The album is also unquestionably Pictureplane's best and most assured record to date: his vocals are confident and unnervingly sexy, the instrumentation is at once both purely electronic and surprisingly human. Pictureplane has managed to make electronic music deeply emotive--a synthesis of the human and the machine both in lyrics and sound. Summer 2011 belongs to Pictureplane.

Elisabeth Wood is Albert McCloud. Her offering for this split 7" is a tribute to the stars called "Planetarium 2010." It's a somewhat implausible sounding Afro-Cuban-grooved choral arrangement of a tune originally conceived by Bruno Adams (1963-2009), and features a Sacramento, CA area community choir, ages 15-50, as well as a rhythm section plucked out of the Folsom High School jazz program. Although Wood has more or less called Berlin home since 2003, she's now in the early stages of working with a band in Seattle on a new album.
Deradoorian’s contribution is the beautifully raw “Marichka.” Produced by Angel Deradoorian and Dave Portner, the song is the first glimpse of new material since 2009’s Mind Raft EP.

The results are more challenging and bizarre than you could possibly imagine: nightmarish kraut from WEASEL WALTER (FLYING LUTTENBACHERS); sparse, terrifying soundscapes from WOLF EYES’ JOHN OLSEN; searing noise and auto-tune from Baltimore legends NAUTICAL ALMANAC; manic, pounding rhythms from JASON FORREST; and alienating, reverb-drenched skree from Cleveland’s EMERALDS. It’s one of the most visceral sounding records we’ve heard all year, and most certainly does justice to Throbbing Gristle’s bold legacy.

Curated and produced by HEALTH, DISCO2 features the epic noise jams of GET COLOR remixed by electronic luminaries Tobacco, Crystal Castles, Salem, Javelin, and Gold Panda (among others), and leads off with the killer new HEALTH single "USA BOYS", mixed by legendary producer Alan Moulder (My Bloody Valentine, Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode). In their five years of existence, Child Abuse have become much more than a (shocking) name. The legendary NY trio has fused elements of Noise, Death Metal, Free Jazz, and Grind (among other things) to for something entirely their own. Grimy synths, broken beats, and bucolic vocals collide somewhere between early 90s house music and the gnarly soundscapes of Black Dice to forge a sound that's wholly unique and endlessly exciting. It’s exceedlingly rare to find dance music that transcends the cold and robotic, but on Dark Rift Pictureplane does just that: churning out intricate electronic jams out of his Denver bedroom. It feels at once personal and cosmically expansive. In Pictureplane’s own words: “once every 26,000 years our planet crosses through the eliptical plane at the center of our galaxy known as the dark rift. the songs on dark rift lyrically deal with humanity entering a new age or next phase of our existenceâ€¦” The dance-floor and universe await Dark Rift.
The Mind Raft EP is astonishingly mature, dark, beautiful, and unexpected-if only because it seems to have tapped into something far older and wiser than Angel Deradoorian's 22 years would suggest. Whether it's the guitar, bass flute, or her stunning voice, Angel's musical proficiency is boundless. This is as promising as a debut can get.
